I bought this Kuhn Rikon Auto Safety Lid Lifter, it is a great product as advertised compared to other conventional can opener. This uses a different principle (as seen in the video) cuts the cans from the edge rather than from the top and cuts the tops smoothly without any sharp edges. The top part can even be used again if there are any leftovers by closing the top until the can is used again. Don't leave it long in the fridge however, we're supposed to use the contents right away once they're opened.

Main advantages are:

a) it is easier to clean, 
b) doesn't come in contact with the food, 
c) there are no sharp edges, so it is safer to use,
d) durable design,
e) prices ($14 to $16) are comparable to other can openers.

Initially, you will find it awkward cutting the cans this way but you will see after a few repetitions it does a great job.



There is another can opener from the same Swiss company, Kuhn Rikon Auto Safety Master Opener, which does more than opening the cans, it can open the bottles and other food containers as shown in the video below.

How to check for water leaks in toilets?

Are you annoyed with high water bills? And there is nothing more annoying than a leak you can't identify that easily, one of them is the leak from the toilet tank and bowl. An unfixed toilet leak can waste more than 10,000 gallons of water in a year, enough water to do laundry for 10 months, according to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). But luckily there is a quick fix to solve this toilet leak problem.


Stephanie Thorton, a representative from EPA's Water Sense program, gives the following tip:

1. Put a few drops of food coloring (I used yellow coloring substance) in your toilet tank.
2. Check back after 15 minutes and if the color has seeped in, you have a leak.

I tested it in my home and it works as advertised, thankfully there is no leak for now.

Remove Clogged Bathroom Sinks with Drano Snake Plus

One of my friends had the bathroom sink clogged up and they asked me what kind of tool or cleaning solution is good to solve it. I suggested a snake drain kind of tools and one of them is Drano Snake Plus, which is a good tool to use and is very effective in solving bulk of the clogging problems.  It is a long rod with barbs (like needle barbs), it is sufficient to remove most of the gunk from the drain pipes.

I used it few years ago with a similar tool but without the gel and it worked fine, but for tougher jobs use of the gel would be an ideal solution.
