Maily: Simple E-mail iPad app for kids

Maily, looks like a nice app for kids to begin with in this networked world and be able to communicate with their grandparents, family, friends and classmates. It is more than texts, they could add pictures and handwriting like they do when they send private notes to their parents and grandparents.

Especially designed for kids from 4 years old, Maily allows your kids to send quirky, personalized emails to mom and dad, their grandparents or close friends easily, rapidly, and securely.

Your kids can now create and send their own emails, using elements like digital pencils, brushes, photos, personalized backgrounds, stickers, and their most commonly used expressions.

New emails from family or close friends arrive in your kids' personal inbox, and with their personal contact list, they can reply and send emails anytime.

Maily comes with extensive built-in parent control features, which enables you to be completely in charge of who your children communicate with, and when, including the ability to approve or reject messages before they are sent or received by their children.

It is currently available only for iPad. This should be available for Android and Windows as well, a good app to have for children.

Fastr - iPad App claims to improve speed reading by 300%

Fastr is a speed reading app for iPad, claims that it can increase speed reading skills by 300%. We can use whatever speed reading skills we used for reading conventional books with eBooks as well. I use a stylus instead of the finger tip to read the eBooks and I am able to read faster. If Fastr does as it promises then it will be a good tool to have in iOS.

Eldars Loginovs, the CEO and co-founder, said the app can improve a person’s reading speed by anywhere from 30% to 300%. Typically, a normal reader, reading in their own language, can read at about 240 words a minute. But Mr. Loginovs says speeds of 600 words a minute are easily achievable.

I haven't tried this app to see how good it works, it has low positive reviews, but it is too early to say that it is good or bad, Wall Street Journal gives it a OK. There are however, some good speed reading instruction books like Peter Kump's Breakthrough Rapid Reading,  Evelyn Wood 7-Day Speed Reading book by Stanley D. Frank, Tony Buzan's Speed Reading, which I think are much better and logical ones to read first.

If you use any other speed reading technique either reading conventional books or eBooks, please leave a comment.

Google Currents goes international, offers translation and offline reading

Google Currents app is available for both Android and iOS versions, is one of the must-have apps in either phone or in tablet version. Now the app has added more features including available in multiple countries worldwide, off-line reading and translation option to read in foreign languages. Also, you can read your favorite RSS subscriptions inside Google Currents. I like reading some of the photo bloggers, Google Currents is a good platform to browse them.

We’ve heard you, and today we’re making Google Currents 1.1 available around the world. Hundreds of U.S. editions are now readable in your preferred language with a new publisher-selected translation feature, and local publishers can begin adding their content to the catalog through Google Currents Producer. Plus, a new dynamic sync feature improves your reading experience with fresh content wherever you are.
