I used the following "Flush DNS" method:
1. Go to "Command Prompt"window in PC.
2. Go to the main drive, in this case, it is "C:\"
3. Type "ipconfig /flushdns"
4. Restart the program you're having problem with, it should work fine.

I had a closed-caption file in .SRT format and I wanted to change it to a .Txt file format for language translation purposes. I searched for the web for a quick and easy solution. There were a number of solutions but I found the below method to be simpler than others:
1.) Open the "Notepad" program in Windows and open the .SRT file. (Since Notebook opens only txt files as default, click "All files" first to see the .SRT files as shown below. Click open the .SRT file)
2.) The .SRT file will appear as a text file in Notepad. You can then save it as a Text file by clicking "File" menu and choosing "Save As" and using the text file option as shown in figure below:
To do the reverse conversion from .txt to .srt, you can do similarly, first open the example.txt file and then use "Save As" option and choosing the "All files" option and save the file with the SRT extension by typing it as example.srt.

I was uninstalling Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 to add the newer version, Kaspersky One Universal Security 2012, but for some reason it kept giving a 1922 error, which said the following:
"Error 1922. Service Kaspersky Internet Security (AUP) could not be deleted. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to remove system services."
Even though I am the sole user, Kaspersky didn’t allow me to uninstall. After a searching a few sites, I found this easy solution, "Kaspersky Removal Tool (kavremover.exe)", which uninstalls as advertised.
After you download the tool, you will see a dialog box like the below and once you enter the code number, it finds the right version and uninstalls from the computer. The computer requires a restart after which you can install the newer version.

To do this, do the following:
Open the explorer as shown and type "Size:>500mb" without the double quotes and click enter, you will see a folder with files more than 500mb, most of them will probably be application files or media files.
Once you see the list of big files, then you can eliminate those you don't need it and erase the trash folder with either click "Empty Recycle bin" or use the secure Eraser option to free up space in the hard drive immediately.

- Adding a Solid State drive (SSD) instead of regular SATA drives, SSDs are much faster
- Remove Ghosted drives that you no longer use, you can do this yourself as mentioned in the article or use a program like GhostBuster.
- Remove the programs you don't need to start during startup by using MSCONFIG utility in the computer. Type "MSCONFIG" in Start search menu, it will open the utility, go to "Startup" tab (as shown in picture above) and disable the programs you don't need.
- Defragment the device at least once a week according to Locker Gnome.
I am trying the steps 2 to 4, will keep you posted how it works.

If you have more than one user for your computer, then adding multiple user profiles is the safe option in Google Chrome. Click the wrench button in the menu bar and go to Options (or Preferences in Mac) and click Personal Stuff and click "Add new user". This new user or new profile will be synced (bookmarks, extensions etc.,) wherever you log on be in home, work or anywhere else.

The frequent flash browser crashing problem you will likely face if you are using Google Chrome browser. This is due to the following reason, there are two flash programs installed in the computer one by the Windows and one by Google Chrome. While flash installed by Google Chrome is installed automatically, Windows flash update is not frequent. The conflicts between the two causes repeated crashes in the browser.
To fix this problem use the following steps from Lockergnome.com.
1. Open a new tab and type: "about: plugins" without the quotes
2. Go to "Flash" and click "Details" on the right top side
3. You will see two or more Flash versions (one installed by Chrome in browser and the other installed by Windows)
4. Disable the Flash installed by Chrome browser (usually stored in the computer in the following folder ...AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\17.0.963.38\gcswf32.dll)
5. Restart the browser

If you have Microsoft Office 2010, you will know how annoying the startup screen is, it will flash for a minute or so and load the addins in the background before it starts. To avoid this startup screen, Lifehacker.com provided this following tip also Microsoft has a similar tip:
1.) Right-click on the desktop and go to New > Shortcut
2.) In the box, type one of the following, depending on which program you want the shortcut to activate (these commands are for Microsoft Office 2010):
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\WINWORD.EXE" /q3.) Hit Next, Enter a name for the shortcut (like "Microsoft Word 2010"), and hit Finish.
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE" /e
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\POWERPOINT.EXE" /s
4.) Repeat the process for the other two programs, if desired.
For Windows 64 bit systems, use the same shortcuts as above but change the file location from "Program Files" folder to "Program Files (x86)" folder.
This tip should also work fine in Windows XP, the location of the file will be different, so you can browse and point to that specific Word, Excel or PowerPoint program.

SyncToy, a free PowerToy for Microsoft Windows, is an easy to use, highly customizable program that helps users to do the heavy lifting involved with the copying, moving, and synchronization of different directories. Most common operations can be performed with just a few clicks of the mouse, and additional customization is available without additional complexity. SyncToy can manage multiple sets of folders at the same time; it can combine files from two folders in one case, and mimic renames and deletes in another case. Unlike other applications, SyncToy actually keeps track of renames to files and will make sure those changes get carried over to the synchronized folder.
There are three options available for syncing between the PC and the hard drive, "Synchronize", "Echo" and "Contribute". The "Synchronize" options syncs the new and updated files both ways and removes any deleted files . The "Echo" option is similar to "Synchronize" option but the changes are implemented only one way from Folder (PC) to Folder (Hard Drive) or vice-versa. The "Contribute" option syncs from the left to the right but doesn't delete the files in the right, so if you have some old files, which are deleted in the left folder remains the same in the right.
One feature is missing in this program, which is the automatic scheduled backup option, but other than that, Microsoft SyncToy 2.1 works as advertised.
They are available in 64-bit and 32-bit versions also.
