Video: 11 Months, 3000 pictures and a lot of coffee

This is what you call dedication and a work of art. The car enthusiast buys an engine from eBay to replace his old engine for his Triumph Spitfire. He captures every moment in this video:

Started out as just a collection of snaps as I stripped down an engine bought off ebay. (To replace my old engine, which had suffered catastrophic failure). The snaps were so that I remembered how everything went, so I could put it back together again.


Then I realised it'd be quite cool to make it an animation. found some suitable music, rekindled my ancient knowledge of Premiere, storyboarded it, shot it as I worked on the engine (my poor DSLR got covered in engine oil), this was the result.


The music is "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" from Edvard Griegs "Peer Gynt Suite"

Floating Mug with Built-in Coaster - a Kickstarter project

With this coffee mug, a Kickstarter project, there won't be any ring stains on the table. It looks like a science fiction product floating in air. Larry David will be very happy with this mug (Curb Your Enthusiasm — Larry Respects Wood video below). The mug was inspired by a banana stand shown below.


The project is halfway through. $40 seem too much for a ceramic coffee mug but that is what he needs to make this initial batch, once it is commercially available the prices will come down. It works both for coffee and tea drinks.

Fastr - iPad App claims to improve speed reading by 300%

Fastr is a speed reading app for iPad, claims that it can increase speed reading skills by 300%. We can use whatever speed reading skills we used for reading conventional books with eBooks as well. I use a stylus instead of the finger tip to read the eBooks and I am able to read faster. If Fastr does as it promises then it will be a good tool to have in iOS.


Eldars Loginovs, the CEO and co-founder, said the app can improve a person’s reading speed by anywhere from 30% to 300%. Typically, a normal reader, reading in their own language, can read at about 240 words a minute. But Mr. Loginovs says speeds of 600 words a minute are easily achievable. 


I haven't tried this app to see how good it works, it has low positive reviews, but it is too early to say that it is good or bad, Wall Street Journal gives it a OK. There are however, some good speed reading instruction books like Peter Kump's Breakthrough Rapid Reading,  Evelyn Wood 7-Day Speed Reading book by Stanley D. Frank, Tony Buzan's Speed Reading, which I think are much better and logical ones to read first.

Yard Sale Mapper: Best iPhone & iPad App for Yard Sales in the US

I saw two Yard sale apps for iPhone today, Yard Sale Mapper and Yard Sale, both are good apps to have but I find Yard Sale Mapper better of the two. Yard Sale Mapper has more listings than Yard Sale, most probably because the latter is new. 


Yard Sale Mapper iOS app searches Craigslist and Yardsaletreasuremap.com and shows the listings in the surrounding area where you live.


Once you install the app and give permission to your location, it lists all the listings in the area. When you click the listing, it shows the details including pictures, directions, street view and source of the listing. 


Both are free apps.


Also, available for Android users in Google Play.
