Plot of Love Graph in Google Search

Posted on 3:56 PM by Unknown

This is a follow up of the previous post, which shows how to plot different graphs in Google Search.

Go to Google Search and copy this "5 + (-sqrt(1-x^2-(y-abs(x))^2))*cos(30*((1-x^2-(y-abs(x))^2))), x is from -1 to 1, y is from -1 to 1.5, z is from 1 to 6" (without the quotes) and do a search or go to this Google Shortcut link, http://goo.gl/n6Zd6 , you will see an animation like in the video.

Plot Math Functions in Google Search

Posted on 11:50 AM by Unknown
If you do a Google search for the below functions (or you can click the short links next to it) you will see a good animation plot of these functions:

"sqrt(x*x+y*y)+3*cos(sqrt(x*x+y*y))+5 from -20 to 20" : http://goo.gl/zJPhT

"sin(5.5x)*cos(5*y)+x*x+1 x is from -1 to 1, y is from -1 to 1, z is from 0.1 to 2.8": http://goo.gl/FQve9

"tanh(y(y^4+5x^4-10(x^2)(y^2))/(x^2+y^2)^4)": http://goo.gl/aBlvT

If you can't see the animation, here is a brief video for all the above three functions:

Sonalight App for Android Phones - Send Text Messages by Voice

Posted on 3:28 PM by Unknown

Don’t text and drive but if you have to you can use an app like Sonalight App. It does a good job of sending and replying to text messages via Voice input. It was developed by an ex-Googler, +Curtis Liu.
“Text by Voice allows you to safely text while you drive entirely through voice. There’s no need to touch or look at the screen at all. Text by Voice will automatically read incoming text messages aloud and give you a chance to respond. You can also set an auto responder for incoming text messages, and have Text by Voice start automatically when you start driving, and make calls hands-free. Text by Voice lets you compose texts on the fly. It runs in the background so you can use other apps at the same time. Drive more safely with Text by Voice.”

This app is available for Android phones only for now. You can download it from here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonalight

To learn about Sonalight click here: http://sonalight.com/

Example is the Best Teacher

Posted on 10:31 AM by Unknown

Zig Ziglar talks about the importance of communication and quotes a story of Benjamin Franklin, how being an example alone speaks loud to others:
“When Benjamin Franklin lived in Philadelphia, he recognized the need for street lights, but things were different in those days and city governments did not have budgets to light streets.  Franklin took action and erected a beautiful post in front of his home with a lantern on top.  At dusk he lit the lantern but said nothing to anyone about it.  After three or four nights, a neighbor followed suit, then another.  Soon the whole street was lighted and it spread across town.  Franklin’s example sent a simple but effective message and demonstrated again that example is the best teacher.”
This strategy works in any area.

How to keep Basil fresh for longer periods?

Posted on 3:08 PM by Unknown

Chow website gives a good tip of keeping the basil stay fresh longer in the fridge. First cut the tips of the bottom of the basil and put them in a glass of water and cover them in a plastic bag inside the fridge.

This tip seems to work well for other herbs such as Cilantro and Parsley.

How to Block any Website in Google Searches

Posted on 9:06 AM by Unknown
We have excellent spam block control in Gmail but can we extend the same feature to the web to block sites that provides spam type of results in Google Searches? Yes, we have with the following two methods:
a.) With this method you can block any results with any browser, just go to this Google link http://www.google.com/reviews/t and enter the website you want to block and provide a reason why you are blocking the site. Once you enter this manually, then that website or websites are blocked in your Google Search results. There is however only a limit of up to 500 websites and you have to enter each one of them manually.
b.) This method uses Google Chrome extension called "Personal Blocklist (by Google)". After you install this extension in Google Chrome browser, just click the extension button in the Toolbar to block any website you find providing spam results or trying to make you install unnecessary programs. Later if you accidentally block the sites, you can easily unblock with this extension. However, this is limited to Chrome browser, if you are using other browser, you may or may not have similar extensions like the Personal Blocklist extension.
The method "b" is simple and easy to use, plus it is one-click choice compared to method "a".

Do you use any other method to block websites from appearing in Google Search results?

How to make incompatible Evernote Web Clipper Extensions work with Chrome or Opera Browsers?

Posted on 9:30 AM by Unknown

I have Chrome Dev version 19.0.1068.1 dev-m and found most of the extensions working fine except some extensions like Evernote Web Clipper extension. I checked Evernote forum to find a possible solutions, it appears Evernote Web Clipper doesn't have their extension compatible with Chrome Dev version only for stable versions of Chrome browser. However, if you are a regular Evernote user, you will find this lack of updated extension annoying, but luckily there is a solution.

You can install Evernote Bookmarklet from this link here: http://www.evernote.com/about/download/ and choose "Browser bookmarklet" as shown in the picture above and by dragging it to your bookmarks bar. Once you add this to the bookmarks bar or links bar, you can then share your favorite articles with notes to your Evernote account.

This method works fine in Opera browser also.

Sparrow Mail Client for iPhone iOS released

Posted on 11:24 AM by Unknown

Sparrow Mail Client offers an excellent mail client for Mac computers, now they are offering it for iOS also for $2.99. Sparrow offers plenty of features like the desktop client but with some obvious missing features such as push notification and for IMAP accounts (no POP forwarding email clients). But I am sure these two missing features will be added later in the future versions. Sparrow is a much better mail app to have in iPhone than the standard mail app from Apple.

For now Sparrow has released only an iPhone version (iTunes Link), hopefully they will provide an iPad version as well.

Here is a video of the app:

Sharing Gets Better with Andmade Share in Android

Posted on 8:28 AM by Unknown
I use both Android and iOS, sharing is one of the great features you will find in Android, it is just not limited to Twitter, Facebook, and Email like in iOS, you have a variety of sharing choices in Android. With Andmade Share, you can improve sharing even more, you can share in one or more sites at the same time.

After you install Andmade Share, you will see the option "Andmade Sharing", by which you can choose more than one site to share your files.

It is very useful if you want to send your photos to multiple sites like Picasa, Flickr or others at the same time instead of sending it one by one.

The video below shows a quick demo:

Control Your Finance with 'I Will Teach You To Be Rich'

Posted on 3:31 PM by Unknown

I bought this book "I Will Teach You To Be Rich" about a year ago, wish it were available when I graduated from college. It is a must read book for both students and their parents, offers plenty of financial tips. Ramit Sethi, author of this book doesn't recommend you to be a miser, just wiser. It is a must read financial book and that too for a price of a medium Starbucks coffee.
Here's the link.

In this book, Ramit Sethi offers the following tips:
  • The word-for-word script on how to negotiate your way out of a late payment on your credit card (pg 24)
  • How to pay off debt -- whether it's student-loan debt or credit-card debt -- using mathematical and psychological strategies (pg 350)
  • The surprising perks of your credit card, including automatic warranty doubling, purchase protection (if you spill coffee on your new laptop, like I did), and concierge services (pg 31)
  • The 6 Commandments of Credit Cards (pg 22)
  • The little-known technique to improve your credit -- if you have no debt (pg 23)
  • The script for increasing your credit limit (pg 28) could improve your credit score and save you tens of thousands of dollars when you go to buy a house. Let's say that's worth $100.
  • My step-by-step instructions on how to automate your finances should conservatively earn you over $100,000 over your lifetime -- if you are an illiterate, half-blind, one-legged pirate who doesn't even do exactly what I say.
  • A simple investing solution that outperforms the vast majority of investors (I use that term carefully) year after year (pg 177)
  • My exhaustive research on the very best savings, checking, and credit card accounts -- the ones that I use -- so you don't have to re-invent the wheel  (pg 52)
  • The word-for-word script to negotiate out of overdraft fees (pg 65)
  • The Ladder of Personal Finance: Where your money should go (pg 76). This alone will easily pay for the book 100x over.
  • When to use your 401(k), Roth IRA, and more -- step by step (pg 77)
  • What to do if you've maxed out all your retirement accounts (pg 89)
  • Why I LOVE people who spend $5,000/year on shoes and $21,000/year going out -- if they use Conscious Spending (pg 91)
  • Use psychology against yourself to save (pg 100)
  • How much should I be spending on entertainment? Food? Rent? I have the specific numbers for you (pg 104)
  • The Two-Headed Savings Approach to save hundreds/month -- without worrying about saving a few bucks on morning latte, as so many "experts" recommend (pg 111)
  • How to spend only 3 hrs/month managing your money. If fully optimized, you can cut this down to less than 1 hr/month (pg 128)
  • Use my automation system to completely automate all your money -- including which account should transfer to which other account -- and when. All fully detailed out day by day (pg 131)
  • How to "link" your accounts so they transfer to the right place, at the right time -- automatically (pg 132)
  • Master the sneaky marketing tricks that financial companies use to trick you. An entire chapter where I systematically demolish financial "experts" using their own data (pg 143)
  • Do you need a financial adviser? Here are the questions to ask (pg 153)
  • The simplest diagram on investing you'll ever see (pg 167)
  • Where should you be investing? (pg 180)
  • So you want to invest on your own...what do you need to know? (pg 188)
  • The one thing you need to know about taxes -- and the worthless "noise" you can ignore (pg 205)
  • Student loans: Pay them down or invest? (pg 220)
  • Should you let your parents manage your money? And how do you help parents who  are in severe debt? (pg 222)
  • The word-for-word script to talk about money with your girlfriend or boyfriend without being a huge weirdo (pg 225)
  • The $28,000 reason we're all hypocrites about our wedding -- and the surprising numbers behind it (pg 229)
  • How to negotiate your salary -- plus a case study on Rachel, who secured a 28% raise using my techniques (pg 234)
  • A fresh perspective on buying a car (pg 244 -- how I saved thousands buying mine), buying a house (250 -- these numbers will astonish you)
  • ...and far more

'Draw Something' popular new game app for Android and iPhone

Posted on 10:56 AM by Unknown

The app "Draw Something", available in iOS and for Android phones (Sale $0.99), was only released five weeks ago and is already a big hit worldwide.
"In just five weeks, the pictionary-like game has been downloaded 20 million times.
That's more users than 3-year-old Foursquare has. That's almost as many users as 1.5-year-old Instagram."
This game needs two players to play the game. I just downloaded it and will add my thoughts later. If you like a game like Pictionary then you will play this game with ease.

If you have already downloaded this game, leave comments about the game.

Block unwanted calls or SMS text messages with Mr. Number Android App

Posted on 11:03 AM by Unknown

Recently, I received an unwanted text message from an unknown caller and I was unable to block them with the stock applications I have in my Android phone, then I found this Android app "Mr. Number: Text, Call & Block" (Google Play Android Apps link). After you install the app, you can retrieve the calls or text messages and block the callers easily.

Besides block the callers, Mr. Number has the following features, one good feature I like is identifying the private callers:

* One history: See all your calls, SMS and MMS messages in one place
* Blocklist: Block calls, SMS, and MMS from one person, an area code, or the world
* Caller ID: Always know who is trying to reach you with crowd-sourced Caller ID
* Availability: Let contacts know when you are free for a call and when you are tied up
* Signature: Create your own Caller ID profile and use it to sign your texts too

How to use Smiley the right way in Google+

Posted on 10:13 AM by Unknown

If you use lot of smileys like me in Google+, then use this smiley :) instead of this :-). When you add two or more smileys with the latter, the sentence between the two smileys gets a strike through like the above example.

This is because, you can get a strike through with just the dashes alone between the sentences or words. e.g. -Google- (no space between the dashes, the word gets a strike through in Google+.

There are also other Google+ hacks, you can add a * at the beginning and at the end to make the sentence or the word bold (e.g. *Google*) or you can add a _ at the beginning and at the end to make the sentence or the word in italics (e.g. _Google_)
