Get Flipboard App for Android

Posted on 9:34 AM by Unknown
Flipboard, a popular magazine app for iOS, is coming soon for Android. It is currently available in new Samsung phones but not for other Android phones. There are some Flipboard.apk software available in some Android forums, I was able to download from one of them, it works just like the ones of iPad and iPhone.

If you have an Android device and want to download the Flipboard Android app, sign up at Flipboard site here. They will soon make it available for everyone, till that time, you can beta test the software at the above link. Also, check out Google Currents, it is similar to Flipboard but has more features than the latter and ability to connect with your Google Reader subscriptions.

If you don't want to wait until the app is released by Flipboard, then you can download the Flipboard app from this Dropbox link here.

Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K760 for Mac, iPhone and iPad

Posted on 7:09 AM by Unknown
Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K760
The new solar keyboard from Logitech seems to be a better alternative than the original wireless keyboard from Apple. According to Logitech, when fully charged this solar keyboard remains powered for up to three months and with more charging via solar means from other light sources, you can except even more power. It is priced at US$79.

This K760 keyboard works with Mac, iPhone or iPad. Logitech has a Windows version also in Amazon but is not as compact as the above. There is also a previous bigger keyboard version K750 (Silver version) for Mac sold at Amazon for $60.

Able's Kone Coffee Filter + Brewing System is a good one to have for both homes or offices, plus it is easy to clean and has a reusable filter.

Cardiograph - Measure Heart Rate App for Android

Posted on 6:57 AM by Unknown
Cardiograph Screenshot
There are a number of apps that measure heart rate in Android Play Store, but Cardiograph is one of the comprehensive app that is available in the market. It is also available for iOS at this iTunes links here (iPad app, iPhone app).

Once you install the app, follow these three steps to get an instant heart rate reading.

Step 1. Power on the device by tapping the START/STOP button.
Step 2. Gently place the tip of your index finger over the camera, so that it covers the lens completely.
Step 3. The readings will appear after a few seconds. The heart-shaped bars indicate measurement accuracy.

According to Mayo Clinic:
"For an adult, a normal resting heart rate ranges from 60 to 100 beats a minute. For a well-trained athlete, a normal resting heart rate may be closer to 40 beats a minute. For healthy adults, a lower heart rate at rest generally implies more efficient heart function and better cardiovascular fitness."
The lower the heart beat rate, it is better.

Just like all other apps, this may or may not be the accurate heart rate measurement but gives you a good idea about your heart health.

How to use Cardiograph

Here is the video demo:

Get rid of allergies caused by eyeglasses with a simple hack

Posted on 3:51 PM by Unknown

Do you get allergies because of eyeglasses? Usually these allergies arises only after you start wearing glasses during that day. If you do get those allergies, then there is a simple tip to solve it, just cover the plastic parts of the glass (called plastic feet that rests on the nose) with scotch tape, the allergy stops instantly.

Here, they were discussing the causes of this problem and some recommended solutions of removing the part totally. I just covered it with a small Scotch tape and it stops the allergy instantly.

When you replace the glass the next time, you can buy one without the plastic feet. Some sell eyeglass frame with allergy free silicone pads like this one in eBay.

How to store tea leaves stay fresh for a long time?

Posted on 11:53 AM by Unknown

The best way to store tea leaves is in an airtight canister or a tea tin like the above at room temperature away from light, air, heat and moisture. By this way you can keep the tea fresh for up to a year. Don't store in the fridge, however, you will lose the tea flavors quickly.

Teavana.com recommends the following method to store tea leaves at home:
Protect your investment (and your palate) by storing your fine, loose leaf tea in a proper tea container. Tea needs to be kept away from heat, light, air, and moisture. The best way to store tea is at room temperature in an airtight tea canister. Unlike coffee, you cannot wrap up tea and put it in the freezer. Tea will lose its flavor and scent quickly if stored in fancy, purely decorative tea containers or kept near a heat source, such as a stove or next to the toaster in your kitchen. Although our loose leaf teas are very beautiful, please resist the urge to store the teas in glass container for display on your counter. An airtight canister is the best way keep your loose teas safe and fresh. Teavana’s airtight double walled stainless steel tea tins are the perfect tea storage container to keep your teas fresh for up to a year.

Another good source to purchase tea tins in sets is from this link, Stampington.com.

New Sony Music Unlimited App for iOS for $3.99 per month

Posted on 10:32 AM by Unknown
iPhone Screenshot 3

Sony launched the Music Unlimited app(currently not yet available in the US, but will be soon) for iOS today, it has two subscription services, one for $3.99 per month and the other for $9.99 per month. The latter has more features than the former such as creating playlists, adding songs to library, on demand playback etc.

You can test drive it for 30 days before purchase in iOS as well as in Android (for Smartphone and for Tablet version).

I pay about $40 a year for Pandora, the Sony Unlimited seems to be a better option but I like the way Pandora recommends music.

Free Up Your Hard Drive Space with a Simple Size Search Option

Posted on 11:36 AM by Unknown

This is the most simplest and the best method I have found so far to clear and increase the storage space in Windows PC computer.

To do this, do the following:

Open the explorer as shown and type "Size:>500mb" without the double quotes and click enter, you will see a folder with files more than 500mb, most of them will probably be application files or media files.

Once you see the list of big files, then you can eliminate those you don't need it and erase the trash folder with either click "Empty Recycle bin" or use the secure Eraser option to free up space in the hard drive immediately.

For Mac computers click the Lifehacker link below to see how you can find and delete large files.

How to take good pictures in your iPhone, iPad or Android without blurs or distortions

Posted on 1:27 PM by Unknown

Do you tap the camera button in iPad or iPhone or in Android phone to take a photograph? When we tap the button, either we force the shot and it causes a blur or a shake in the phone distorting the pictures. I used to do the same until I watched this video. It is not only unnecessary to tap the camera button (either the physical or virtual button) to take a picture, there is no need.

This is how you do it: Just hold the camera button in iPad or in iPhone or in Android and when you are ready to take a picture, release your fingers from the button, the camera app will take a picture automatically.

In the case of iPhone or iPad, there is another way to take a picture, just hold the camera in the phone and when you are ready click the lower volume button either in the phone or in the headphones. In the case of an headphone, you can keep the iPhone in a Tripod and take a picture from a distance.

Posted on 8:18 AM by Unknown
I noticed the new features today, when I was watching an YouTube video in Google+, not sure how long these features were there before. When you right click anywhere in the video frame, you will see all the following features:

1. "Copy video URL"
2. "Copy video URL at a current time"
3. "Copy embed HTML"
4. "Report playback issue"
5. "Copy debug info"
6. "Stop download"
7. "Pop out"

9. "Show video info"
10. "About HTML5"

Before there was an arrow sign to see some of the above features, but with this new method by right clicking on the video frame, we can choose any of these features.

G.co short URL links for Google Services or Products Only

Posted on 8:09 PM by Unknown

If you see any g.co short URL links on the web then you can be rest assured it is either a Google product or service only. Only Google products will have the g.co short links.
“You’ve arrived at this page because you typed or linked to “g.co”, Google’s official URL shortcut just for Google websites.
Whenever you see a short “g.co” link, you can trust that it will always take you to a Google product or service.”
An example for the above is the Google maps link here: http://g.co/maps/hyqeg

This is not to be confused with Google’s other product Goo.gl where the public can shorten long URLs. In goo.gl, if Google automatically creates g.co links for its Google related links, then it will be even better. Also, it can verify whether the link is safe before it gives the short URL otherwise it can block the corrupt link in the first place.

How to add Multiple Accounts in Gmail iOS App?

Posted on 3:10 PM by Unknown

Unfortunately, Google has no multiple Google accounts support in their main iOS app, "Gmail". I tried to add another Google account in iPad2, I looked for that feature in Gmail setting, they don't have that yet. Unless we sign out and sign in with another Gmail or Google App account, there is no other way.

If you want to use multiple Gmail or Google App accounts, the best solution is use the built-in Mail app of Apple's for now, even though Gmail app is much better designed and has more features.

If you still want to use the Gmail app, see the how to post here from Google.

I hope Google will add this feature soon, after they add, I will add the update here.

How to add New Fonts in Google Docs or Google Drive

Posted on 11:27 AM by Unknown

Google Docs added 450 New Fonts and more than 60 Templates in their latest update. Now you can choose more fonts to suit your variety of writing needs compared to what was available before. Still some fonts like Helvetica, and other languages fonts are missing but the above addition is a good start.

To add fonts to your Google Docs, first open an existing file or a new one and click the font menu as shown in the picture above, you will see "Add fonts" at the bottom of the font list. Click the "Add fonts" to see more than 450 new fonts.

Once you finish selecting the fonts, click "Ok", the selected fonts will be added to the font menu.

You can also find fonts based on different styles such as for "Handwriting", "Display" etc., as shown below:

There is no removal button to delete any of the added fonts or delete the existing fonts in the font menu. I hope Google Docs team will add this feature along with adding custom fonts from the computer or from a URL.

How to Open a file from your computer in Google Chrome

Posted on 10:36 AM by Unknown
One of my friends asked me this question, so I am posting this here. There is no File open button in Chrome browser to open a file or a folder in your Windows PC computer. But, there are alternatives to do that function, you can use either of the following methods:

  1. Just press the CTRL and the O keys “CTRL + O” shortcut and choose the file you would like to open in Chrome browser.
  2. Type “file:///C:/” or just the letter of the drive “C:” in the URL bar as shown below:

google chrome file url scheme

For Mac computers use the following command (press command and letter O keys together):
“Press ⌘-O, then select file”
For Linux computers, the shortcut (CTRL + O) is the same as for Windows computers.

For more Google Chrome browser shortcuts, click here.
