I saw the above photo in the comment area. Initially I thought Google+ added this new feature, then realized it was the Google+ Hover Zoom extension I added thanks to +archer rehcra. Now there is no need to click the link to see the photo in a new tab.
The extensions does lot of things besides the main Zoom feature, check it under the settings area according to +archer rehcra. The settings link is available in the home button in Google+. Click the gear icon and you will see Google+ Hover Zoom and settings as shown below, click the settings to add other features. If you enable the "show Video" in the "Other" tab, then you can see the video links in the comment area also.
